For many years, the Northrhine-Westphalian State Stud has run a stallion testing centre for riding horse stallions. Stallion performance tests in Germany are a matter of state authorities and regulated by the animal breeding law. They are based on the Federal Prescription on the Performance Test and Breeding Value Ascertainment in Horses. Since 2001, the stallions are tested in a 30-day suitability test on station and in a 70-day stallion performance test on station.

The performance tests in Warendorf are open to stallions owned by the State Stud as well as to privatly owned stallions. In order to safeguard neutrality, the test is cunducted by the manager of the Westphalian Horse Centre Dr. Antonius Bornemann. Two especially schooled riders from the State Stud and additional staff that is especially skilled in the formation of young horses take care of the daily training and grooming of the stallions.
